Castle Hill Public School, established in 1879 but rebuilt in 1998, has close to 800 students coming from a range of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. Our students have fifty different first languages at home, and while fifty percent have English as their first language, the other main language groups are Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, Hindi and Arabic. The school is able to gain high academic standards from its students which can be attributed to the effectiveness of its teaching programs, the dedication of teachers and the commitment of families to the education of their children. Students participate in many programs beyond the academic curriculum. The school offers a variety of opportunities for participation in sport and the performing arts. Each of these contributes to the lifelong learning of students. The school also makes a substantial contribution to the maintenance and development of the values of students. Despite the variety of cultures in our school population, the family values that children bring to school are homogeneous. The school supports and demonstrates those values as a key component of each student’s personal and social development. |
